Former physical-education teacher Bronwen James, 29, appeared at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with 13 sexual offences involving three pupils aged between 14 and 16. The alleged conduct is said to have occurred over a three-year period while she taught at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham, Wiltshire, and Bitterne Park School in Southampton, Hampshire. Prosecutors outlined six counts of sexual activity with a girl, four counts of sexual activity with a boy, two counts of sexual communication with a child and one count of making an indecent photograph of a child. James was not asked to enter pleas and spoke only to confirm her identity and address. She denies the allegations, according to court documents. Magistrates granted conditional bail, ordering her to have no direct or indirect contact with the complainants and prohibiting unsupervised contact with anyone under 16. Because three of the charges are indictable-only offences, the case was sent to Salisbury Crown Court for a plea and trial-preparation hearing on 7 August.
