The United Kingdom on 21 August summoned Israel’s ambassador in London after the Israeli government approved the contentious E1 settlement plan in the occupied West Bank, according to Reuters and multiple regional broadcasters. British officials said the project would effectively bisect the West Bank and sever it from East Jerusalem, raising concerns that it would jeopardise the viability of a future Palestinian state. London conveyed what it called its "grave concern" over the decision and reiterated its position that settlement expansion in occupied territories is illegal under international law. The Foreign Office urged Israel to reverse the approval and to refrain from actions that undermine the prospects for a negotiated two-state solution.
