A secure Lebanon is vital for regional stability. I discussed concerns about Israeli strikes and reiterated UK support for the Lebanese Armed Forces. Together we underscored the need for the IDF to withdraw fully and Lebanese Hezbollah to maintain the ceasefire. @LBpresidency https://t.co/bGzKqBEr1x

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy held talks in Beirut with the Lebanese President on 5 July, pledging continued United Kingdom support for the Lebanese Armed Forces. Lammy said the army remains the country’s sole legitimate defender and stressed that international backing would persist as Lebanon grapples with security and economic strains. Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in the south of the country. The president told Lammy that current conditions require the peacekeepers’ presence, while the British envoy emphasised that an effective ceasefire is essential to permit wider army deployment. Lammy also expressed concern over recent Israeli strikes and called for a full withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces from Lebanese territory. He urged Hezbollah to uphold the ceasefire, describing a secure Lebanon as vital for broader regional stability.
