Lebanon’s leadership has sharply condemned a series of Israeli airstrikes in the vicinity of Nabatieh, a town in the country’s south. On 27 June, the prime minister described the raids as a flagrant breach of Lebanese sovereignty, a violation of arrangements to halt hostilities under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and a threat to regional stability. President Joseph Aoun echoed the criticism, saying Israel was ignoring international appeals for de-escalation and urging the global community to act. He warned that continued attacks hinder efforts to stabilise Lebanon and maintain a cease-fire along the border. The issue dominated talks in Beirut on 5 July with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. Aoun told Lammy that Israeli occupation of strategic southern hills and repeated strikes were preventing the state from asserting full authority and restricting weapons to official forces. He emphasised that the UN Interim Force in Lebanon must remain deployed. Lammy and the British ambassador pledged sustained support for the Lebanese Armed Forces and called for a durable cease-fire to enable the army’s deployment in the south.
