Virgin Atlantic Airways said it will equip its entire wide-body fleet with SpaceX’s Starlink satellite terminals, giving passengers free, high-speed Wi-Fi on multiple devices. Installation is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2026 on Boeing 787-9s, Airbus A330-900s and A350-1000s and is expected to cover all aircraft by the end of 2027. The move makes Virgin Atlantic the first UK airline to commit to fleet-wide, complimentary broadband delivered by the low-Earth-orbit network. In a parallel development, the US Federal Aviation Administration told Bloomberg it has expanded trials of Starlink ground links to 41 connections—two in New Jersey, 28 in Alaska and 11 in Oklahoma—up from eight in March. The agency is evaluating whether the service can strengthen an air-traffic control system that has suffered recent communications outages. The twin announcements highlight the growing use of SpaceX’s satellite constellation in commercial and government aviation, as carriers and regulators seek faster connectivity for passengers and more resilient networks for critical flight operations.
