T-Mobile and SpaceX have officially launched the T-Satellite service, powered by Starlink, on July 23, 2025. This new satellite-based cellular service enables smartphone users across the continental United States to send SMS texts even in areas without traditional cellular coverage. The service covers approximately 500,000 square miles, including remote and hard-to-reach regions. T-Satellite supports texting on both Android and iOS devices, with MMS available initially for Android users and coming later for iPhone. The service is included with T-Mobile's "Experience Beyond" plan or available to users of other carriers, such as AT&T and Verizon, for $10 per month. Data services through third-party apps like WhatsApp, X, and AllTrails are scheduled to launch on October 1, 2025. The T-Satellite service evolved from a free beta program that began earlier in the year and attracted substantial user interest. Additionally, in response to catastrophic flooding in Texas, SpaceX has deployed Starlink Minis to first responder vehicles in Kerr County and other affected counties, restoring communication capabilities where radios and cell towers failed. Starlink and T-Mobile have also enabled basic satellite texting for T-Mobile customers in flood-impacted Texas counties, including Kerr, Kendall, Llano, Travis, and Comal, with emergency alerts activated for compatible phones. Starlink is providing one month of free service to thousands of customers in these flood-affected areas to support relief efforts. Elon Musk emphasized that the partnership aims to eliminate cellular dead zones, potentially saving lives by maintaining connectivity in emergencies.
"Starlink Satellites will be able to broadcast direct to your mobiles. There will be no deadzone anywhere in the world for your cell phone. Your phone will still work even if there are no cell towers." Starlink will save lives. ❤️ https://t.co/JLt6045TNo
