The U.S. Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $950 million after no ticket matched the six winning numbers—9, 12, 22, 41, 61 and the red Powerball 25—drawn on Wednesday, Aug. 27. It is the 38th consecutive rollover since the last grand-prize win on May 31, making Saturday night’s draw the biggest lottery offering of 2025 and the sixth-largest Powerball prize in the game’s history. A winner on Saturday may elect to take the full $950 million paid in 30 graduated annual installments, or a lump-sum cash option of about $428.9 million. Choosing the lump sum would immediately be reduced to roughly $326 million after the mandatory 24% federal withholding, and could fall to around $270 million for taxpayers in the top 37% federal bracket. State taxes could further trim the payout in jurisdictions that tax lottery winnings. The potential windfall still trails the record $2.04 billion jackpot hit in November 2022, but another rollover would push the prize pool past the $1 billion mark for the first time this year. Separately, the Mega Millions top prize stands at roughly $277 million ahead of Friday’s drawing, keeping attention on U.S. lottery games amid a stretch of historically large payouts.
