Newly released body-camera video shows Kentucky lottery winner James Farthing being tackled and tased by Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies at the TradeWinds Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida. Deputies say Farthing kicked an officer in the face while they tried to break up a fight on 29 April, one day after he collected a $167.3 million Powerball prize—the largest jackpot ever won in Kentucky. Farthing, 50, faces one felony count of battery on a law-enforcement officer and two misdemeanor counts of simple battery and resisting an officer without violence. Video released this week captures him attempting to flee before an officer deploys a taser and several deputies restrain him. His girlfriend, Jacqueline Fightmaster, was arrested on a disorderly-conduct charge stemming from the same disturbance. Court records show Farthing, who has prior convictions in nine Kentucky counties, waived a probable-cause hearing and is due back in court on 18 September. He remains in custody but is expected to be released later this month pending the outcome of the Florida case.
