Bay Area Rapid Transit temporarily suspended trains in all directions at West Oakland Station on Friday after a fire broke out on the trackway shortly before 1:40 p.m. Pacific time, disrupting one of the system’s busiest transbay choke points. Oakland Fire Department crews extinguished the flames and, after emergency inspections, BART cleared the tracks for use. Normal service resumed at about 2:20 p.m., the agency said, advising riders to expect residual delays as operations returned to schedule.
