Three Thai soldiers were wounded when a landmine exploded during a routine patrol in Thailand’s Sisaket province, opposite Cambodia’s Preah Vihear province, at about 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, the Thai army said. One soldier lost a foot and the other two sustained lesser injuries; all are being treated in hospital. Cambodia’s Defence Ministry has not responded to requests for comment. The incident comes just two days after Thailand and Cambodia concluded a detailed ceasefire that ended the worst border fighting between the neighbours in more than a decade. The July 24–28 artillery and air clashes left at least 43 people dead and forced more than 300,000 from their homes. Saturday’s blast is the third landmine incident injuring Thai troops in recent weeks, underscoring the fragility of the truce even as both sides have agreed to allow ASEAN observers into disputed areas to help prevent further hostilities.
