Canada is experiencing a surge in immigration-related pressures in 2025, marked by record-high temporary foreign worker permits and increasing refugee claims. As of mid-2025, Canada issued 105,195 temporary foreign worker permits, continuing an upward trend despite prior government promises to reduce such permits. Refugee claim backlogs have reached an all-time high with 287,786 people awaiting hearings. Among asylum seekers, nearly 10,000 Indian nationals have filed claims so far this year, the highest number from any country. American refugee claims have also increased, with 745 applications in 2025 compared to 204 in 2024.
