The federal New Democratic Party (NDP) has initiated a review of its 2025 federal election campaign as it prepares to launch a leadership race to select a successor to current leader Jagmeet Singh. The leadership contest is scheduled to begin in September 2025 and will conclude with the selection of a new party leader by the end of March 2026, with voting closing on March 28 and the leadership announcement on March 29. Candidates will be required to pay a $100,000 entry fee to participate in the race. To be eligible to vote in the leadership election, party members must have new or renewed memberships submitted by January 28, 2026. The party has also released official rules regarding signature collection for candidates. This leadership race is seen as a critical step for the NDP following the 2025 federal election campaign review.
