The Bharatiya Janata Party has completed organisational elections in more than half of its 37 state and Union-territory units, satisfying the constitutional requirement needed to choose a new national president and paving the way to replace incumbent J.P. Nadda later this month. Over the past week the party named new chiefs in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Mizoram, while Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal filled the posts earlier. With roughly 24 units now headed by freshly elected presidents, election in-charge K. Laxman is expected to announce the national poll schedule in the coming days. Party officials said the process has been driven by closer coordination with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Many of the new appointees are long-time cadre with strong RSS links, reflecting a shift from personality-driven selections toward organisational experience. Nadda held a closed-door meeting with RSS sarkaryawah Dattatreya Hosabale on 28 June to finalise the overhaul. Attention is now turning to possible successors. According to multiple party insiders, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, former Union minister D. Purandeswari and Tamil Nadu legislator Banathi Srinivasan are among the names being discussed, raising the prospect that the BJP could choose its first woman president. The final decision is expected to rest with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in consultation with RSS leadership, and could coincide with a broader Union cabinet reshuffle.
