Two American passengers from separate Carnival Cruise Line ships died in unrelated drowning incidents at Celebration Key, the company’s new $600 million private resort on Grand Bahama, authorities said. A 79-year-old man lost consciousness while snorkeling just before noon on Friday and could not be revived despite CPR administered by lifeguards. Roughly two-and-a-half hours later, a 74-year-old woman was found unresponsive in a resort pool and also died despite resuscitation efforts. Carnival said the male passenger had sailed on the Mardi Gras and the female passenger on the Carnival Elation, with both travelling with family. The Royal Bahamas Police Force is leading separate investigations and has ordered autopsies to determine the exact causes of death. Celebration Key, which opened in July, was designed to handle up to two of Carnival’s largest vessels simultaneously and ultimately welcome up to four million visitors a year.
