Chilean authorities have detained a Venezuelan leader of the transnational criminal group Tren de Aragua, known as "Gordo Alex," in connection with the kidnapping and murder of former Venezuelan military officer Ronald Ojeda. The suspect, who had left Chile after the kidnapping and later reentered the country, was apprehended following multiple operations coordinated by the Chilean police and the Public Ministry's Organized Crime and Homicide Unit. The Chilean Prosecutor's Office has characterized the killing of Ojeda as politically motivated. Meanwhile, in Valparaíso, three inmates, including one convicted for the homicide of a police officer, escaped from prison with external assistance. The escape was reportedly executed by sliding down a cable to the street, described as a cinematic-style breakout. Following the incident, the Chilean prison service announced the reassignment of three staff members due to failures that enabled the escape.
