Codelco's El Teniente copper mine in Chile has partially resumed operations with 2,480 workers following a fatal accident that resulted in six deaths. The Chilean Minister of Mining emphasized that worker safety remains a priority. In response to the incident, the general manager of El Teniente resigned. Codelco estimates the accident caused losses of up to US$300 million and is engaging with contractor companies to stabilize operations. Meanwhile, Chilean authorities have intensified actions against criminal activities linked to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. Police detained a leader of the gang, known as "Gordo Alex," who is implicated in the kidnapping and politically motivated murder of former Venezuelan military officer Ronald Ojeda. The detainee had left Chile after the kidnapping but later re-entered the country. In addition, there have been multiple arrests related to a businessman kidnapping in Quilicura, with at least twelve people detained following raids in Independencia and La Pintana, where a house used as a captivity site was searched. Separately, Chile's prison service removed the regional director of Atacama after mistakenly releasing two inmates, one of whom was recaptured. Authorities also reported the escape of three inmates from Valparaíso prison, including one convicted of killing a police officer.
