Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz released the fifth edition of its semi-annual Top 100 Generative AI Consumer Apps list, covering usage from March through August 2025. The ranking tracks both web and mobile traffic using SimilarWeb and Sensor Tower data. OpenAI’s ChatGPT kept the top spot across categories, with Google’s Gemini in second place. Overall turnover slowed, as only 11 new web entrants appeared—evidence that consumer adoption of AI tools is beginning to stabilise after last year’s rapid expansion. Google’s renewed push into consumer AI was underscored by four separate domains—Gemini, AI Studio, NotebookLM and Google Labs—making the web ranking for the first time. The report also flags the rise of “AI studios” and notes that distribution and user experience are emerging as critical competitive moats. Companion chatbots remained a powerful draw, accounting for roughly one-fifth of the products on the list. Chinese developers continued to gain ground as apps such as Doubao, Quark, Kimi and video generator Kling climbed into prominent positions, highlighting Beijing’s growing influence in the generative-AI market.
