Beta Technologies has achieved a milestone in electric aviation with its Alia CX300 aircraft completing the world's first fully electric passenger flight. The aircraft flew four passengers from East Hampton to New York's JFK Airport, covering a distance of 130 kilometers in approximately 35 minutes at a cost of around ₹700. The Alia CX300 is a conventional takeoff and landing four-passenger plane, and Beta Technologies is also developing an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) model called the Alia 250. Meanwhile, other companies are advancing in electric and hybrid aviation technologies. Chinese startup Electra is developing a hybrid aircraft capable of quick and quiet takeoffs and landings on very short runways, aiming to alleviate airport congestion and streamline passenger experience. Chinese company XPENG AEROHT recently completed a multi-aircraft formation flight test with its flying cars, marking progress toward commercial eVTOL operations. In Dubai, Joby Aviation has delivered its first electric air taxi and completed piloted vertical takeoff and landing wingborne flights, a first for the eVTOL sector in the region. Joby aims to launch commercial passenger service in 2026, with potential trip times from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah reduced from 45 minutes to 12 minutes.
