Joby Aviation, a US-based electric air taxi startup, has delivered its first aircraft to Dubai and completed the region's first piloted electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) test flights. This milestone marks a key step toward launching commercial air taxi services in Dubai as early as 2026, aiming to reduce travel times significantly—for example, cutting trips from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah from 45 minutes to 12 minutes. The company has secured exclusive rights to operate air taxis in Dubai through 2030 in partnership with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority. Joby is also expanding its manufacturing capacity by doubling production space at its Marina, California facility to 435,500 square feet and ramping up operations at a newly renovated facility in Dayton, Ohio. These expansions aim to support FAA certification, pilot training, aircraft maintenance, and increase production to up to 24 aircraft annually. The company is targeting a global rollout of zero-emission air taxis by 2025-26, with plans to initiate US flights following the Dubai launch. Joby Aviation's stock has responded positively to these developments, with notable gains reported.
