The Communist Party of China (CPC) surpassed 100.271 million members by the end of 2024, marking a net increase of approximately 1.09 million members or a 1.1% growth compared to 2023. This milestone was announced in a report by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee ahead of the Party's 104th founding anniversary on July 1, 2025. The Party's membership structure has evolved significantly since its founding in 1921 with fewer than 60 members, now including a majority of white-collar workers and highly educated individuals, with 57.6% holding technical college or university degrees. Women constitute about 30.9% of the membership, while workers and farmers make up roughly 33%. In 2024 alone, over 2.13 million people joined the CPC, with young members under 35 accounting for 83.7% of new entrants. The Party also reported 5.25 million grassroots organizations, an increase of 74,000 from the previous year. Despite the growth, the expansion rate has slowed for the third consecutive year amid efforts by the leadership to regulate the Party's size. The CPC continues to play a central role in governance and societal sectors across China, with its presence deeply embedded in the population—approximately one in every 14 Chinese citizens is a Party member. The 104th anniversary celebrations highlighted the Party's historical journey from a small revolutionary group to a major political force that has led China's transformation into a global economic power. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized the Party's foundational role in China's national rejuvenation and urged members to remain vigilant against internal challenges. The anniversary was marked by various educational and cultural activities nationwide, reinforcing the Party's mission and cohesion.
