DJI Technology Co. has unveiled its first robot vacuum, marking the drone maker’s formal entry into the smart-home appliance market. The Romo series, introduced in China on 7 August, leverages DJI’s vision-sensing and machine-learning know-how to navigate and avoid obstacles as small as 2 millimetres. Each unit uses twin fisheye cameras, LiDAR and on-device AI mapping, and is capable of both sweeping and wet mopping. The line starts with the Romo S at CNY4,699 (about USD655), followed by the Romo A at CNY5,399 and the transparent-cased Romo P at CNY6,799. All three versions deliver a claimed 25,000 pascal suction force, a 164-millilitre water tank, three-hour run time and an 80 percent cut in operating noise. Maintenance alerts and cleaning modes are handled through the new DJI Home app. DJI said it intends to release the product outside China later this year, positioning the device against incumbents such as iRobot, Ecovacs, Xiaomi, Roborock and Narwal, which together controlled about 61 percent of global robot-vacuum shipments in 2023.
