Recent cybersecurity reports indicate that the Chinese nation-state threat group known as Salt Typhoon has successfully exploited vulnerabilities in Cisco devices, impacting multiple telecom networks. Between December 2024 and January 2025, Salt Typhoon intruded into five additional telecom networks, including two unnamed providers in the U.S., according to researchers from Recorded Future. Concurrently, hackers are also exploiting vulnerabilities in Palo Alto Networks firewalls, with reports confirming that threat actors are targeting these systems shortly after the disclosure of a bug in PAN-OS. Additionally, SonicWall firewall vulnerabilities have come under attack following the release of a proof-of-concept exploit. The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has responded by adding various flaws, including those affecting SimpleHelp, Apple iOS, iPadOS, and Mitel SIP Phones, to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog.
