US Is Looking Into Using Location Trackers With Artificial Intelligence Chips
📡 Geo-tagged GPUs are coming most probably. 🔒 Washington wants AI chips that report their whereabouts. The plan tests built-in tracking so location-tracking chokes smuggling of Nvidia H20 units into China. The idea sits in Donald Trump's July AI action plan. White House https://t.co/M2Qs8TIZhX
The United States government is exploring enhanced location-tracking features for artificial intelligence (AI) chips as part of efforts to restrict the flow of advanced semiconductors, including those produced by Nvidia, to China. According to senior officials and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) Director Michael Kratsios, the initiative involves developing software or physical methods to enable chips to report their geographic location. This approach, which is part of the AI Action Plan introduced by former President Donald Trump in July, aims to prevent smuggling of high-performance AI chips such as Nvidia's H20 units into China by embedding geo-tagging capabilities. The move underscores Washington’s ongoing strategy to curb China’s access to cutting-edge semiconductor technology amid broader geopolitical and trade tensions.
