The Colombian health system is facing renewed scrutiny as EPS Famisanar announced it will terminate its contract with Droguerías Colsubsidio for medication distribution starting August 1, 2025. The decision follows repeated failures by Colsubsidio to deliver medications to patients despite having sufficient stock, as confirmed by an audit from the health regulator Supersalud, which imposed precautionary measures against Colsubsidio. The Procuraduría General de la Nación (PGN) also inspected Famisanar's facilities amid increasing user complaints, gathering information on the provider's technical, legal, and financial management. Famisanar will transfer medication dispensing operations to new companies including Ramédicas, Discolmets, Marcazsalud, and Sikuany across Bogotá and other regions. President Gustavo Petro highlighted the unsustainability of the current health system, criticizing the diversion of increased government funding for health per capita (UPC) into private profits of EPS owners and pharmaceutical managers. He warned that without reform, the entire health system may require intervention. Colsubsidio issued a statement following the contract termination announcement.
