President Claudia Sheinbaum inaugurated a new imaging, laboratory and hemodialysis tower at the Hospital General IMSS-Bienestar in Rioverde, San Luis Potosí. The MXN 500-million project, which adds 128 beds, two operating rooms and intensive-care units, is expected to serve more than 200,000 people. Sheinbaum also pledged to build a “dignified” hospital for the nearby city of Ciudad Valles and earmarked an additional MXN 200 million this year for health facilities in the state. At her 15 July morning press conference, Health Secretary David Kershenobich said 13 hospitals and eight family clinics have begun operating nationwide since 1 October 2024. A further 19 hospitals and six medical units are scheduled to open before the end of 2025 as the administration seeks to close long-standing gaps in public-health coverage. Sub-secretary Eduardo Clark unveiled “Rutas de la Salud”, a nationwide logistics programme that will use trucks, smaller vehicles and boats to deliver medicines from August. Clark said the government has secured 96 % of all medicines and supplies required for 2025-26, while 98 % of oncology drugs have already been bought; about 300,000 cancer-treatment doses are due to arrive this month. The health push also includes the hiring of 1,972 medical professionals and more than MXN 2.7 billion in new infrastructure and equipment for IMSS-Bienestar. Separately, ISSSTE director Martí Batres said the institute has replaced its 486 ageing ambulances with 695 new units, expanding the fleet by 43 %, and will refurbish 80 operating theatres this year. Officials presented the measures as part of a broader effort to guarantee universal, free health care across Mexico.
