American Airlines flight AA3023, a Boeing 737 MAX 8 bound for Miami, aborted take-off at Denver International Airport on Saturday after a landing-gear tyre caught fire, the carrier and local authorities said. All 173 passengers and six crew evacuated via emergency slides as smoke billowed from the left rear wheel assembly. The Denver Fire Department reported the blaze was extinguished by 5:10 p.m. local time. Six people sustained minor injuries, with one passenger transported to hospital. American Airlines said a tyre failure appeared to trigger the fire and the aircraft has been removed from service for inspection. The Federal Aviation Administration has opened an investigation. Denver International imposed a ground stop from 2:00 p.m. until shortly after 3:00 p.m., delaying 87 flights before operations resumed. A replacement jet later carried the disrupted travellers to Miami.
