A Ryanair Boeing 737-800 preparing to fly from Palma de Mallorca to Manchester was evacuated on the runway early Saturday after a cockpit fire-warning light went off, prompting the crew to halt take-off and order an emergency evacuation. Spain’s regional emergency service SAMU 061 said it received the alert at 00:36 local time and dispatched four ambulances and airport firefighters. Eighteen passengers sustained mostly minor injuries—sprains, fractures and bruises—while escaping via inflatable slides or jumping from the wings; six were transferred to two Palma hospitals for treatment. Ryanair described the incident as the result of a "false fire warning light indication" and apologised for the disruption. The carrier supplied a replacement aircraft that departed at 07:05. Aviation safety officials have opened an investigation into the cause of the alarm and the circumstances of the evacuation.
