A Delta Air Lines Boeing 767-400 bound for Atlanta returned to Los Angeles International Airport on 18 July after flames were seen shooting from its left engine shortly after take-off. The aircraft, operating as Flight 446, was carrying 226 passengers and nine crew members. Less than 30 minutes into the flight, the crew declared an emergency, circled back to LAX and landed safely. No injuries were reported. Delta said the pilots acted after receiving an indication of an engine problem and followed established procedures. The airline has launched an investigation into the fire, which is also being reviewed by aviation authorities.
