Delta Air Lines said an Airbus A330 operating Flight 127 from Madrid to New York diverted to Lajes Airport on Portugal’s Terceira Island after crew received an indication of an engine problem roughly four hours into the 6 July trans-Atlantic trip. The aircraft landed safely with 282 passengers and 13 crew on board. All customers deplaned via stairs and were accommodated in local hotels while the airline dispatched a replacement jet from New York. Travellers departed the Azores the following day and reached John F. Kennedy Airport about 29 hours behind schedule. Delta apologised for the disruption, said it will offer compensation and left the stricken Airbus in Terceira for inspection; no injuries were reported.
