Walt Disney Co. said it will phase out the standalone Hulu application and instead fold the general-entertainment service into Disney+, creating a single streaming app that is scheduled to debut in 2026. The announcement was made alongside the company’s fiscal third-quarter results, now that Disney holds 100% of Hulu. Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger and Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnston called the move “a major step” toward strengthening the group’s streaming offering, arguing that hosting both services on one technology platform will improve user experience, reduce churn and unlock new advertising and operational efficiencies. Internationally, Disney plans to replace the Star tile on Disney+ with the Hulu brand starting in the fall of 2025. While the Hulu app will disappear, Disney said customers will still be able to purchase separate subscriptions to Disney+ or Hulu if they prefer standalone plans. The integration follows Disney’s June 2025 payment of roughly $9 billion to acquire Comcast’s remaining one-third stake in Hulu, ending a years-long ownership tussle. Disney reported 183 million combined Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions at the end of June, a 2.6 million increase from March, but said it will no longer break out individual subscriber figures going forward. Disney also set 21 Aug. 2025 for the launch of its long-awaited stand-alone ESPN streaming product, priced at $29.99 a month, with bundle offers planned alongside Disney+ and Hulu.
