Meta Platforms reported first quarter 2025 revenue for its Reality Labs division of $412 million, a 6% year-over-year decline attributed to weaker sales of Quest headsets, particularly the Quest 3. Reality Labs posted a $4.2 billion operating loss for the quarter. The revenue drop was partially offset by strong performance from Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which saw sales triple compared to the previous year. Meta's CFO Susan Li noted that usage of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses quadrupled over the same period, indicating high engagement among users. The company is preparing to launch a new generation of smart glasses with integrated displays later in 2025, developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica. The Meta AI companion app for the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses has been rebranded and expanded with new features. Unit sales estimates for Q1 2025 suggest Meta sold approximately 280,700 Quest 3 headsets, 325,600 Quest 3s headsets—marking the Quest 3s' first full quarter on the market—and 499,400 Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Meta's total Q1 revenue was $42.31 billion, with Reality Labs' performance partially offset by growth in other areas. In the VR gaming sector, Walkabout Mini Golf's 'Raptor Cliffs' DLC was released across platforms including PlayStation VR2 and Meta Quest. Other VR game releases for May 2025 include Ghosts of Tabor, The Midnight Walk, and Zombie Army VR. Meta Quest+ subscribers received Pavlov Shack and Kill It With Fire as headline games for May. The competitive landscape also includes Apple's Vision Pro, which may influence demand for mixed reality devices.
