Wall Street has entered the peak of the second-quarter reporting season, with more than 3,500 companies worldwide—about 122 of them in the S&P 500—due to publish results between 4 and 8 August. The line-up spans sectors from technology and pharmaceuticals to consumer staples, making this the busiest earnings week of the year. The week opened with Palantir Technologies posting a record quarter. Revenue rose 48 % from a year earlier to roughly US$1 billion, topping consensus by about US$61 million and marking the company’s first billion-dollar quarter. Strong demand for its Artificial Intelligence Platform pushed U.S. commercial sales up 93 % and U.S. government revenue up 53 %. Management lifted full-year guidance, projecting revenue of about US$4.15 billion and free cash flow of US$1.8–2.0 billion. Attention then shifted to chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices, which reported after Tuesday’s closing bell. Second-quarter revenue climbed 32 % to US$7.69 billion, driven by demand for MI300 data-center accelerators and Ryzen PC processors. Adjusted earnings matched forecasts at US$0.48 a share. AMD guided third-quarter revenue to a midpoint of US$8.7 billion, ahead of market expectations, and said gross margins should recover as the impact of U.S. export controls on China eases. Investors next turn to results from Walt Disney, McDonald’s, Uber Technologies and Eli Lilly, among others, later in the week. Options markets are pricing brisk moves: implied post-earnings volatility sits near 6 % for Disney and 6.7 % for Lilly, while tech names such as Shopify and The Trade Desk carry double-digit expectations. With AI spending, consumer demand and drug pricing all in focus, the breadth of this week’s releases is likely to shape profit-growth forecasts for the remainder of the year.
