Spotify Technology SA said it will raise the monthly cost of its Premium Individual subscription to €11.99 from €10.99 in most markets outside the United States and Canada, beginning in September. Subscribers in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region will receive email notifications over the coming weeks. The company cited the need to improve margins and invest in new features as reasons for the increase. Local examples illustrate the scope of the move. In Brazil, the fee will climb to R$23.90 from R$21.90, while France—where the price was lifted to €12.14 in June—will be spared a further rise. Spotify last raised U.S. prices in June and said the latest changes bring international rates closer to North American levels. Investors welcomed the announcement. Spotify shares gained about 4% in pre-market trading and were recently up nearly 8%, extending a rally that has lifted the stock roughly 40% this year. Citi responded by raising its price target to $780 from $715, and Phillip Securities upgraded the shares to Neutral. Price increases and aggressive cost controls helped the Stockholm-based company post its first full-year profit in 2024. For the second quarter of 2025, Spotify reported 696 million monthly active users and 276 million paying subscribers, though higher compensation expenses pushed the firm to a quarterly net loss. Management has signaled further adjustments are possible as it seeks long-term profitability.
