German actor and musician Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht was arrested on Wednesday at Hamburg Airport under a European arrest warrant requested by prosecutors in Innsbruck, Austria. Investigators accuse the 33-year-old of aggravated fraud, alleging he left a €14,000 bill unpaid after celebrating his 30th birthday with friends at the Hotel Sonne in Kirchberg, Tirol, in December 2021. Although the outstanding amount was transferred on Thursday—hotel owner Wilhelm Steindl confirmed the money had reached his lawyer’s account—Hamburg’s remand judge ordered that Ochsenknecht remain in extradition custody. The payment was reportedly arranged by the actor’s former partner Yeliz Koç, but Austrian authorities say the late settlement does not erase the fraud suspicion or the risk of flight. The General Prosecutor’s Office in Hamburg now plans to seek an extradition warrant; the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court will rule on its legality. If approved, Germany would have up to ten days to surrender Ochsenknecht to Austria, where prosecutors could request pre-trial detention. The actor’s management has described the affair as a “misunderstanding,” yet Innsbruck investigators note that Ochsenknecht provided an unattainable Italian address and ignored earlier civil judgments, factors they say justify continued custody.
