A Rio de Janeiro court issued a preventive arrest warrant on Tuesday, 22 July, for rapper Mauro Davi Nepomuceno, known as Oruam, on accusations of drug trafficking and association with the Comando Vermelho criminal faction. The order, requested by state prosecutors and the civil police, also cites resistance, contempt, bodily harm, threat and property damage, reflecting a total of six alleged crimes. The charges stem from an operation in the early hours of Monday at the artist’s residence in the Joá neighbourhood, where officers sought to detain a 17-year-old reportedly acting as security for a Comando Vermelho leader. According to police, Oruam and several associates threw stones and shouted threats at the officers, enabling the teenager’s escape. Investigators say the house had previously harboured fugitives, reinforcing suspicions that the rapper maintained operational links to the gang led by his father, the imprisoned trafficker Marcinho VP. After posting videos on social media challenging authorities and briefly fleeing to the Complexo da Penha, the 25-year-old musician announced he would surrender and presented himself at a Rio de Janeiro police station around 21:00 on Tuesday. He will remain in custody while the court evaluates formal charges. The civil police said the case illustrates continuing efforts to curb the influence of organised crime in the city’s entertainment scene.
