Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on Thursday leveled a second round of corruption charges against Ingrid Lewis-Martin, the former chief of staff and long-time confidant to New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Lewis-Martin and six others were indicted on four additional counts of conspiracy and bribe receiving that prosecutors described as “classic bribery conspiracies” undermining city government. Prosecutors allege Lewis-Martin took more than $75,000 in cash, home renovations and even a speaking role on a television show in exchange for steering official actions and overriding career civil servants. The new indictment also names her son, Glenn D. Martin; former state senator Jesse Hamilton; and political donors Tony and Gina Argento. Lewis-Martin, who resigned from City Hall in December after an earlier, still-pending bribery case tied to construction approvals, is expected to plead not guilty. Her attorney called the prosecution politically motivated. Mayor Adams, who is running for re-election and has not been charged, declined to comment. The case intensifies scrutiny of City Hall as Adams tries to shore up voter confidence ahead of the November contest.
