San Bernardino County homicide detectives arrested Jake Haro, 32, and Rebecca Haro, 41, at their Cabazon residence on 22 Aug. 2025 and booked them on suspicion of murdering their seven-month-old son, Emmanuel. The couple is being held without bail while prosecutors in neighboring Riverside County review the case. The mother had told investigators that Emmanuel was kidnapped on 14 Aug. outside a Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Yucaipa after she was attacked and knocked unconscious while changing his diaper. Detectives later found inconsistencies in her account, noted a lack of surveillance footage and, after examining digital evidence, concluded no abduction occurred. Authorities now believe the infant is dead and are continuing to search for his remains in both Yucaipa and Cabazon. The sheriff’s office said the parents stopped cooperating with investigators before their arrest. Court records show Jake Haro pleaded guilty to child-cruelty charges in 2018; his attorney in that matter has said he does not believe the couple is responsible for the child’s disappearance.
