A series of violent incidents involving fires and stabbings occurred in Chicago neighborhoods in late June and early July 2025. On June 26, an extra-alarm fire broke out at an apartment building in the Austin neighborhood, initially killing three people: a 5-year-old boy, a 32-year-old pregnant woman, and a 76-year-old man. A fourth victim was discovered on June 27, raising the death toll to four. Authorities are investigating the blaze as arson, with reports indicating the fire was started by a man who threw two Molotov cocktails during a domestic dispute. Separately, on July 4, a stabbing and subsequent fire in a Logan Square apartment resulted in five people being hospitalized, including three children. One of the children, a 4-year-old boy, died from his injuries. Police reported that the mother allegedly stabbed multiple people inside the apartment before setting the home on fire. Emergency responders rescued two critically injured children from the scene. Both incidents are under active investigation by Chicago police and fire departments.
