A Bucks County judge on Friday found Justin D. Mohn, 33, guilty of first-degree murder and two terrorism counts for killing and decapitating his father, Michael F. Mohn, in their Levittown home and posting a video of the severed head on YouTube. Judge Stephen A. Corr immediately sentenced Mohn to life in prison without the possibility of parole, calling the crime “unimaginable” and citing Mohn’s lack of remorse. Prosecutors said Mohn shot his 68-year-old father with a recently purchased pistol on Jan. 30, 2024, then used a kitchen knife and machete to sever the head. He uploaded a 14-minute video in which he displayed the head while urging viewers to help overthrow the U.S. government. The footage remained online for several hours before being removed. Authorities arrested Mohn later the same day after he scaled a fence at Fort Indiantown Gap, the Pennsylvania National Guard’s headquarters. Investigators recovered a USB drive containing photographs of federal buildings and instructions for making explosives. Prosecutors argued that the slaying was part of a pre-meditated plot to intimidate federal employees and advance Mohn’s anti-government agenda. Taking the stand during the bench trial, Mohn claimed he was attempting a citizen’s arrest for “treason” and described the killing as “Plan B” when his father resisted. District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said Mohn’s testimony underscored his “complete and utter lack of remorse.” The conviction closes a case that drew national attention for its graphic violence and its rare application of state terrorism statutes in a domestic homicide.
