Botanix Labs has launched the mainnet for its Bitcoin Layer-2 network, marking a notable development in Bitcoin's decentralized finance ecosystem. The mainnet went live in early July 2025, following a testnet phase that began in December 2024 with over 26 million transactions processed. Botanix is an EVM-compatible Bitcoin-rooted Layer 2 blockchain that utilizes a multi-signature validator network called Spiderchain to secure bridged BTC. The network supports decentralized applications, including integrated partners such as GMX, Dolomite, Chainlink, and Fireblocks, and node operators like Alchemy, Antpool, and Galaxy. Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) serves as the canonical cross-chain infrastructure for Botanix from launch, providing secure cross-chain messaging and programmable token transfers. Chainlink Data Feeds and Data Streams also deliver the data layer for low-latency operations. Botanix offers functionalities such as trading, lending, borrowing, staking, and leverage with a native tokenomics model where 50% of gas fees are distributed to native BTC stakers without requiring token wrapping. The network operates with five-second block times and transaction fees around $0.02. This launch positions Botanix as the first fully decentralized EVM-equivalent Layer 2 solution for Bitcoin, aiming to expand DeFi capabilities on the Bitcoin network.
