Botanix Labs has launched the mainnet for its Bitcoin Layer-2 blockchain, aiming to enhance decentralized finance (DeFi) capabilities on the Bitcoin network. The mainnet launch, announced in early July 2025, introduces an EVM-compatible platform secured by a multi-signature validator network called Spiderchain, which enables trust-minimized bridging of Bitcoin. Botanix integrates Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as its primary cross-chain infrastructure from day one, along with Chainlink Data Feeds and Data Streams to provide low-latency, accurate data for decentralized applications. The network supports functionalities such as trading, lending, borrowing, staking, and leverage without requiring wrapped Bitcoin. Since its testnet debut in December 2024, Botanix has processed 26 million transactions. Ecosystem partners include Chainlink, Fireblocks, Alchemy, Antpool, and Galaxy, among others. The platform features five-second block times with transaction fees around $0.02, with 50% of gas fees distributed to native Bitcoin stakers. Botanix is positioned as a significant advancement in Bitcoin's Layer-2 ecosystem, offering a fully decentralized, programmable Bitcoin environment.
