Botanix Labs has launched the mainnet for its Bitcoin Layer-2 network, marking a new phase in Bitcoin's decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. The platform offers an EVM-compatible, fully decentralized Layer 2 solution that enables functionalities such as trading, lending, borrowing, staking, and leverage. Since its testnet launch in December 2024, Botanix has processed 26 million transactions. The network features a multi-signature validator system called Spiderchain, which secures bridged BTC with trust-minimized architecture, providing five-second block times and transaction fees of approximately $0.02. Botanix integrates Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as its canonical cross-chain infrastructure from inception, along with Chainlink Data Feeds and Data Streams to support low-latency data delivery. The ecosystem includes applications like GMX and Dolomite and partners such as Chainlink, Fireblocks, Alchemy, Antpool, and Galaxy. Additionally, 50% of all gas fees are distributed to native BTC stakers without the need for wrapping tokens. The launch is seen as a key advancement in Bitcoin's Layer-2 programmability and decentralization efforts.
