OpenAI and Anthropic are providing free AI tools for students, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus, which is normally priced at $20 per month but will be available at no cost until May 31, 2025. This offer includes access to GPT-4o, image generation, and voice interaction capabilities. Additionally, Anthropic has released its first Education Report, analyzing the use of its AI tool, Claude, among university students. The report is based on a privacy-preserving analysis of nearly one million education-related conversations, revealing that 38.6% of these interactions were conducted by Computer Science students, who represent only 5.4% of U.S. bachelor's degree holders. The report indicates that students utilize AI tools across four learning modes, with STEM disciplines dominating usage, particularly in Computer Science, which accounted for 36.8% of conversations. This initiative is part of Anthropic's broader efforts to integrate AI into educational settings through partnerships with universities.
Last week, @AnthropicAI introduced #Claude for Education and partnered with universities to bring #AI to students and educators. https://t.co/q7EIBmj4nx
Really great thread on how university students in the US are using Claude. One of the first attempts by an AI lab at understanding how students are using AI. https://t.co/PvovxOa4dj
We just released our @AnthropicAI Education Report analyzing ~1M anonymized student conversations on Claude using our privacy-preserving Clio tool. @kunalhanda_ and I discovered that students use AI ~equally across 4 learning modes, STEM dominates usage (36.8% CS), and students https://t.co/bsNS0t0VV6
