Enbridge Inc. has reached a final investment decision to spend about US$900 million on the 600-megawatt Clear Fork solar facility near San Antonio, Texas. Construction is under way, and the asset is scheduled to begin delivering power in 2027. Meta Platforms has signed a long-term contract to purchase 100 percent of the plant’s output to run its regional data-center operations. Enbridge expects the project to add to cash flow and earnings once it comes online. The move deepens Meta’s push into renewable energy as artificial-intelligence workloads drive up electricity demand in its data-center network. In late June, the social-media company expanded its partnership with Invenergy, agreeing to buy 791 MW of new solar and wind capacity across Ohio, Arkansas and Texas, bringing the pair’s total collaboration to about 1.8 GW. Most of the newest Invenergy capacity is slated to be solar and to enter service by 2028. Taken together, the Enbridge and Invenergy agreements secure more than 1.4 GW of additional clean-energy capacity for Meta in less than a month, supporting the company’s goal of powering its operations with 100 percent renewable electricity. The transactions underscore how surging demand from technology firms is accelerating large-scale renewable-power development in North America.
