The U.S. Bureau of Prisons said Friday that Ghislaine Maxwell has been transferred from the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, Florida, to the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas. Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted in 2021 of helping the late financier Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse underage girls. Maxwell’s attorney, David Oscar Markus, confirmed the move but declined to provide a reason. A Bureau spokesperson said prisoner assignments are based on security level, medical and program needs, and other considerations, but would not discuss Maxwell’s case specifically. The transfer follows two days of closed-door interviews last week between Maxwell and Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche, who said he sought information about additional individuals involved in Epstein’s crimes. The meetings have intensified speculation that Maxwell—whose lawyers are appealing her conviction to the U.S. Supreme Court—may seek clemency from President Donald Trump. Federal Prison Camp Bryan is a minimum-security facility that houses about 635 female inmates and has limited or no perimeter fencing, a step down from the low-security Tallahassee prison’s double-fenced perimeter. Other high-profile offenders, including Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, are held at the same Texas camp.
