House lawmakers Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie said they will hold a bipartisan press conference at the U.S. Capitol on 3 September to appear alongside survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s abuse. According to the legislators, several of the survivors plan to speak publicly for the first time. Khanna and Massie intend to use the event to intensify pressure on federal agencies to release the investigative records often referred to as the “Epstein files.” In separate statements, the pair said the files should be made public with victims’ identities protected, arguing that transparency is essential to holding enablers accountable and delivering justice to survivors. Momentum for disclosure grew after Vice President JD Vance, during a 10 August Fox Business interview, asserted that President Donald Trump “has demanded full transparency” on Epstein while criticizing the previous administration’s handling of the matter. Vance’s remarks prompted a new wave of public and political calls for the documents, which the Justice Department has so far declined to publish. Epstein died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges; Maxwell was convicted in 2021. Although prosecutors have said Epstein left no definitive client list, advocates contend the sealed records could shed light on influential associates who facilitated or benefited from his crimes.
