The European Union has received 76 proposals from companies across 16 member states to develop AI gigafactories at 60 potential sites, surpassing the initial target of 4-5 facilities. These firms have collectively indicated plans to invest approximately €230 billion over the next three to five years, with intentions to acquire at least 3 million latest-generation AI processors (GPUs). This surge in interest reflects the EU's ambition to strengthen its position in the global artificial intelligence sector, aligning with the objectives of the AI Continent Action Plan. Additionally, the EU plans to purchase €40 billion worth of AI chips through a trade agreement with the United States, further supporting its AI industry development and technological sovereignty goals.
