European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said the ECB will take any measures necessary to bring euro-area inflation back to target, reiterating the institution’s commitment to price stability in an interview with Germany’s ARD television on 4 July. Lagarde added that achieving the goal remains the Governing Council’s priority and that price dynamics are showing signs of stabilisation. She also argued that the euro’s international role would strengthen once the region’s economic framework becomes more efficient and trade barriers inside the bloc are reduced.
