Tesla has introduced a new Performance variant of its Model Y sport-utility vehicle for Europe and the Middle East, expanding the line-up of what has been the world’s best-selling car. The model, unveiled on 29 August, will be built at the company’s Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, with first customer deliveries expected next month. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive crossover produces 460 bhp and sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, or 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, while topping out at 155 mph. Tesla cites a 360-mile WLTP driving range—about 580 km—thanks to a battery pack that uses higher-density cells. Hardware upgrades include adaptive suspension, revised stabiliser bars, 21-inch Arachnid wheels, red performance brakes and a carbon-fibre rear spoiler. Inside, the vehicle adopts sports seats and an enlarged 16-inch touchscreen with 80 percent more pixels than the standard display. The Model Y Performance is priced from £61,990 in the UK and €61,990 in Ireland and continental Europe, roughly €9,000 above the Long Range version. By launching the quickest-accelerating Model Y first in its European plant, Tesla is aiming to shore up regional sales against a growing roster of Chinese and European electric-SUV rivals.
