Treasury’s Bessent Seeks China, EU Cooperation on Russian Oil Tariffs

US Treasury Secretary Bessent said Washington intends to engage Beijing over its purchases of Russian and Iranian crude, signalling renewed diplomatic pressure on China to curb energy flows that help sustain Moscow and Tehran. Bessent added that India’s continued intake of discounted Russian oil also poses a challenge for Western efforts to squeeze Kremlin revenues. She said the Treasury will coordinate with European counterparts on existing and potential tariff measures aimed at Russian exports.
